This Newborn Great Start Consult is for parents that want to get breastfeeding off to a great start. Breastfeeding may be going well or there may be some struggles. If you baby is under 4 weeks of age, please schedule this consult. You do not have to be having issues to schedule this consult.
It is like a breastfeeding class with the baby in your arms.
We do have home consults available, they are limited so please contact us at 623-526-0673 if you would like to schedule a home visit.
If we come to your home, you can wear your pajamas and we can do the consult anywhere, including in your bed!
If we meet in office. wearing your pajamas is still an option!
This consult usually lasts 1.5- 2 hours.
We can discuss:
Normal newborn behaviors, including feeding cues
How to know if your baby is getting enough milk
Sleep expectations for a newborn and how to gently work on sleep skills for baby and parents
Various positions to breastfeed your baby in
We will leave you with a list of community resources.

If you are having challenges and difficulties with breastfeeding, please don’t hesitate to call.
We will use a hospital grade scale, and all of the tools of the trade, including years of experience working with new m0ms and babies. We will take a full medical history and do an examination of the baby to address any of the issues you are having. If pumping is a part of the care plan, we will go over your pump, the settings and flange size. After our 1.5-2 hours together, you will get a care plan so that you know exactly what to work on after the consult, as well as a free virtual check in call within the week after the consult and a plan to contact us for up to 2 weeks after the visit. We can help you with:
a painful latch
damaged and bleeding nipples
clicking or slurping at the breast and bottle
baby comes on and off the breast frequently
baby struggles with a fast flow of milk (choking, gagging at the breast)
difficulty breastfeeding on both breasts (side preference) or in varying positions
concerns about your babies weight gain (slow or fast weight gain)
tongue tie/lip ties
gassy, fussy babies with signs of reflux
possible food sensitivities (baby has eczema type rashes and/or concerns with their stool)

This consult is available in-office or as a Virtual (online) consult.
A prenatal breastfeeding consult can be done at anytime during your pregnancy. We will take a complete health history as well as answer any questions and concerns that may impact your breastfeeding journey. This appointment is is available in-office or virtually and lasts approximately 30-45 minutes. You will be given a detailed care plan with recommendations and resources.
This consultation can help you if you have had:
Difficulty breastfeeding a prior child
Low milk supply with a prior child
Breast/nipple surgery
Flat or inverted nipples
Little or no breast changes during the pregancy
Health issues
Hormonal concerns such as insulin dependent diabetes, history of PCOS or infertility
Pregnant with multiples
The consult lasts approximately 30-45 minutes.

You may be an exclusive pumping mama, you may want to pump occasionally or you may be returning to work and you need help going over your pump, flange size, bottle introduction and milk storage.
This can also be a consult for bottle introduction and even bottle refusals. We do not promise that your baby will take a bottle right away but will give you tips and tricks to get your baby to take a bottle.
We can do this consult virtually or in-office. Please have your pump and all of the supplies ready for the consult.

+ Follow Up Consults: Current Clients Only
In office follow up: Follow ups are $125 in office and $175 in home.
Lactation Network may be able to get your insurance to cover these consults.
Follow up consults for current clients can be done after a Great Start Consult or a Consult for Breastfeeding Difficulties. We can do a weight check, update the care plan and go over any questions that you may have. Please contact the IBCLC you're working with to schedule a follow up.

+ Virtual Flange Size Fitting
Have your pump and all of the supplies, including any size flange that you have, ready before our call.
We will watch you pump via an app called Spruce, a HIPAA compliant, privacy protected app that you will need to download prior to our visit. When you schedule your appointment you will have access to a form to provide us with some more information before the virtual phone call..
We will make recommendations based on seeing your nipples, before during and after pumping for 5-10 minutes. We will send a written care plan and will ask you to keep us updated after our call.
Find a place to set your phone, laptop or tablet during the visit. You can wear a pumping bra as long as the nipple and flange can be fully visible. We may ask you to pick up your device at some point to give us an up close view.
Virtual (online) consultation - $25 for a 15 minute virtual visit and care plan.

Az Breastfed Babies works with mostinsurance plans (with an out-of-pocket cost of $50 travel fee for a home visit, office visits are typically fully covered).

These consults can cover breastfeeding, pumping, bottle introduction and even weaning.
We do take any form of payment including HSA, FSA, debit, & credit.
If we are not contracted with your insurance, we can provide you with a superbill receipt with diagnostic codes that you can use to file for possible reimbursement from your insurance. You can call your insurance to see if they have an IBCLC in network within 30 miles of you. If they don’t, you can ask for an out of network gap exception. Please reach out at 623-526-0673 and we can provide you with our NPI and EIN numbers. This does not guarantee reimbursement.

Cancelation fee- $50 if appointment is canceled less than 48 hours before appointment time or a no show.
With a 48 hour notice, an appointment can be rescheduled for no fee, but because of a full calendar we may not be able to offer another appointment within the same week. If you cancel your appointment, please let us know so we can initate any refund that may be due. We do offer military, teacher, nurse and first responder discounts. If this applies to you, use the code Azbaby10 when scheduling, for a 10% discount.
